What Reiki is
A heart in the Amazon.
Reiki is a gentle energy healing modality using the laying of hands. It's a system to channel Universal Life Force Energy for the purpose of physical, mental, and emotional healing. Reiki consists of two words: Rei, meaning life force and Ki (or Chi), meaning individual life force. Through a Reiki practitioner universal life force enters the body and blends with our individual life force to restore balance to our bodies and spirits. Reiki also utilize ancient symbols that send out electromagnetic impulses that amplifies the vibrations. It is an accumulative energy that can be practiced daily and the more we receive the greater the benefits. Reiki is not a religion, but a spiritual discipline practicing non-judgmental, unconditional love and personal responsibility with non-attachment.
Benefits of ReikiBy blending universal life force with our individual life force reiki realign, rebalance and remove blockages in our energy centers, also known as chakras, to allow the subtle energy free flow through the meridian energy pathways running through the body. We consist of energy, and just like our blood need free passage through our veins, our life energy need free passage
through its etheric pathways. The result of Reiki is reduced stress, a boost of the immune system and our own healing ability, ease of aches and pains, clarity of mind and greater focus, as well as reduced side effects of certain medications. Reiki is often recommended before and after surgery as it may speed up the healing process, but is also of great value to healthy individuals as a preventative measure by maintaining the energetic balance. Although, there have been several cases recorded where Reiki has cured serious diseases it is only recommended as a complimentary modality to Western medicine and should not be used as a substitute. Reiki is a very gentle energy that accumulates in the body, so the more we receive the greater the benefits, and can be channeled on a daily basis. As with all energy healing, the practitioner does not heal the client. All healing occur within the individuals themselves and is in agreement with their higher self and source. The practitioner is simply acting like a straw, allowing the energy to flow through their upper chakras and out through their hands. The energy will go where it needs to go and no reiki session is the other alike. Below is an article from a scientific studie that explains that reiki really do work. http://greenlotus.hubpages.com/hub/Reiki_Really_Works-A_Groundbreaking_Scientific_Study

BackgroundReiki is an ancient healing technique developed and practiced over 2500 years ago according to writings by Tibetan monks and the Sanskrit Sutras. Due to a change in focus among the monks the technique gradually fell into the background and was essentially forgotten until the mid 19-century, when a Japanese monk by the name of Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered it. He not only found how to access this healing vibration, but went a step further by creating the Reiki Principles. These are principles that involve spiritual matters into the healing equation in the form of gratitude and personal responsibility. He found that for a healing to be beneficial, each person must make a personal investment in their own healing. Dr. Usui is considered to be Reiki's first grandmaster.
There are various teachings of reiki, and all teachings don't acknowledge other grandmasters but Dr. Usui, although there are two others who often are thought of as grandmasters due to their contribution to Reiki. The second grand master was Dr.Hayashi, a Japanese naval officer, taught in the art of Reiki by Dr.Usui himself. Dr. Hayashi opened the first reiki clinic in Tokyo, and for the purpose of treating patients he developed generic hand positions for treatments, and systemized the various levels of reiki for teaching purposes. The third grandmaster was an American woman of Japanese descent, by the name of Madam Takata, who is mainly responsible for bringing Reiki to the west. She suffered from various health challenges and when visiting her parents, she became a patient of Dr. Hayashi's reiki clinic in Tokyo. The reiki treatments led to her complete healing within a few months, which led her to feel inspired to practice reiki herself. Although, traditionally reiki was only taught to men, but World War 2 was raging and fearing Reiki may once again be forgotten, Dr. Hayashi agreed to teach her. Madam Takata brought Reiki back to America, where she opened a reiki clinic in Hawaii, where Dr. Hayashi later joined her. |
Levels
Reiki is something anyone can do. The energy is inherently part of everything, it surrounds us, and we are all connected. Heal yourself and you will heal another. We like to say that the difference between practitioners and non-practitioners is like the wattage of a light bulb. Someone who has never been attuned may have a 25 watt bulb, while a reiki 1 practitioner has a 120 watt bulb and a master over 1000 watts. What the reiki attunements do is to prepare the body to vibrate on a higher level, and clears the upper four spiritual chakras to channel higher frequencies. Reiki is taught in four levels and understanding the principles of reiki and its teachings is just as important as the attunements themselves.
*Reiki 1 deals with Self-Healing.
Each time a practitioner offers reiki they also receive a session, and when attuned to the energy it stays with you for life and you can offer to yourself.
*Reiki 2 deals with Relationships.
In this level you get the tools for healing your inner wounds, to understand them and move on. You also learn the first three sacred symbols of reiki to amplify the energy.
*In the Advanced Practitioner deals with intuitive diagnostics. The practitioner works on how to interpret the images revealed during a given session. As practitioners we never give medical diagnosis but we may give suggestions. In this level you learn an additional 5 sacred reiki symbols.
*The last level is the Reiki Master Program. This is a year long journey of personal exploration and discovery. You are taught how to teach reiki, how to attune people, and is given the master symbol. With the New York based reiki school The Center of Living Light you also receive two additional symbols originally channeled by the school's founder Robin Lechner.
